Your own domain

Every app opens at your-app.systemi.in. Add your own domain and the same app answers there too, over HTTPS.

How it works

Your domain stays with whoever you bought it from; you only add two DNS records there. One record proves the domain is yours, the other sends visitors to your app. Once both are in place we set up HTTPS for the domain. Your your-app.systemi.in address keeps working alongside it.

How many own domains you can add depends on your plan; the console says when you have used them all.

Add a domain

  1. Open the app in the console and choose Domains.
  2. Type the domain, for example www.example.com, app.example.com or example.com, and press Add domain. Pasting a full address such as https://www.example.com/ works too.
  3. The console shows the records for that domain. Add them where your domain's DNS is managed (often the company you bought the domain from).
  4. Press Verify.

The records

For www.example.com on an app called shop the console shows something like this (your token differs):

TypeNameValueFor
TXT_systemi.www.example.comsystemi-verify=3f9c…proves it's yours
CNAMEwww.example.comshop.systemi.insends visitors to your app
  • Some DNS panels want only the part before your domain in the name field: _systemi.www and www for the records above.
  • Copy the values from the console: click a name or value to copy it.
  • Keep both records for as long as the domain points at systemi. The TXT record is checked again whenever you press Verify.
  • A host name can be live on one systemi account at a time; the TXT record decides whose it is.

A bare domain

A bare domain such as example.com usually can't have a CNAME record. For it the console shows an A record with our address instead; use that, or a CNAME-like record if your DNS provider has one (often called ALIAS, ANAME or CNAME flattening) pointing at your-app.systemi.in. The TXT record is the same as for a subdomain.

Want both example.com and www.example.com? Add each one; they count as two domains. Or add one and redirect the other at your DNS provider.

DNS on tport.cloud (through our partner tport.cloud)

If your domain's DNS is on tport.cloud, we can add the records for you instead of you copying them:

  1. On tport.cloud, open DNS and make an API token with the DNS scope.
  2. In the console, open your app's Domains, paste the token under Manage DNS through our partner tport.cloud and press Connect. We check it and keep it encrypted; it is used only to add your domains' records.
  3. Press Set records on the domain. Both records go into the matching zone on tport.cloud (for a bare domain, the A record). Records already there are left alone, and if the name already points somewhere else nothing is changed and the console says so.
  4. Press Verify a minute later, as usual.

Press Disconnect to forget the token, and revoke it on tport.cloud if you no longer need it. Records already added stay in place.

Verify

Verify looks up both records. New records often show within a few minutes, but some providers take up to an hour, and an older record for the same name can linger until its time-to-live runs out. If it isn't found yet the console says which record is missing; wait a little and press Verify again.

HTTPS

Once the records check out we get a certificate for your domain, usually within a minute or two, and renew it for you. Visitors on http:// are sent to https://. You don't upload or manage certificates.

Status

StatusWhat it means
Waiting for DNSAdded; add the records and press Verify.
Not found yetA record is missing or points elsewhere. The console says which one.
Getting certificateRecords found; HTTPS is being set up. The page updates by itself.
LiveYour app answers on the domain over HTTPS.

A live domain stays live through a short DNS hiccup: a later check that fails only shows a note in the console. If you move the domain away from systemi, remove it here too.

Remove a domain

Press Remove next to the domain and confirm. Your app stops answering on it within a minute; then delete the two records at your DNS provider. Deleting an app removes its domains too.

When it doesn't verify

  • TXT not found: check the name is _systemi. followed by your full domain, and that your panel didn't add your domain twice (_systemi.www.example.com.example.com).
  • Doesn't point to your app: the CNAME must point at your-app.systemi.in exactly, the app name from the console. Remove any older A, AAAA or CNAME records for the same name.
  • Proxied by a CDN: if your DNS provider proxies traffic, switch the record to DNS only until the domain is live.
  • "In use on another account": someone else verified this host name. If it's yours, contact us.

Your app sees the host name it was opened on, so links it builds follow your domain. Set any absolute URLs your app needs in its environment variables.
